The Village of Plover is unveiling a refurbished 9/11 Memorial on Monday at a special rededication ceremony.

The ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2017, at the 9/11 Memorial in front of the Plover Municipal Building, 2400 Post Rd. The public is invited to attend.

The Village of Plover originally installed the 9/11 Memorial in 2011, thanks in part to Plover Police Lt. Ryan Fox and Village Trustee Al Tessman, who worked with Portage Authority of New York and New Jersey to acquire the piece of I-beam from the Twin Towers. The original memorial was constructed with a concrete pillar and benches, but had become weathered and needed repair.

The Memorial’s concrete was recently replace with granite, with village costs offset by an unsolicited donation of $10,000 by a group of entrepreneurial students from Ben Franklin Jr. High.

Assisting with the ceremony is the Plover Fire Dept., Plover Police Dept., Portage Co. Chaplain Program, the Portage Co. Law Enforcement Honor Guard, VFW Post 10262 Rifle Squad and American Legion Post 543 Honor Guard.
