Skyward Team Wins Plover VFW Golf Scramble for Second Year

For the City Times
Skyward dominated the course for the second consecutive year to win the Plover Veterans of Foreign Wars 13th Annual Mike Helgert Memorial Golf Scramble on Sept. 9.
The winning team was awarded an artillery shell-styled traveling trophy in a ceremony at the post. The team also received a round of golf for four with carts from Wisconsin River Golf Club and each member received a set of golf balls.
A shotgun start at noon kicked off the event as a blast from a howitzer, fired by Bravo Battery 1/120 National Guard Unit, echoed across the course. Twenty-four teams participated in the fundraising scramble, held at Wisconsin River Golf Club.
The event also featured a banquet dinner and basket raffles afterwards at the Post.
Funds raised will be used for local area veteran needs, community support, and ongoing support of the Fisher House, a “home away from home” for military and veterans’ families when a loved one is hospitalized at Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee.
