Doris E. Mykisen

Doris Elizabeth Mykisen, 92, Almond, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017.

She was born in Great Falls, Mont., to Nicholas and Elizabeth (Mueller) Michels Aug. 4, 1925.

On her first birthday, the family moved to Chicago. She attended parochial elementary and secondary school in Palatine, Ill., graduating in 1943.

She worked at the Singer Sewing Company in downtown Chicago.

On May 18, 1946, she was married to Stanley Jerome Mykisen in Chicago, Ill. The couple lived in Chicago, Ill., southern Illinois and eventually moved to Almond in 1955. He preceded her in death in 1989.

Ms. Mykisen was a devout Catholic and member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Almond, and later St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Plainfield. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Golden Needle Quilters Guild of Almond. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, crafts and quilting.

Survivors include her seven children, Gregory (Donna) Mykisen, Bancroft, Kenneth (Nancy) Mykisen, Bancroft, Martin (Renee) Mykisen, Waupaca, James (Kathy) Mykisen, Bancroft, Sandra (Mark) Petrusky, Plainfield, Janis (Melvin) Gimbel, Ree Heights, S.D., and Gene (Terri) Mykisen, Marion; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; one daughter, Sharon; one sister, Marian; and four brothers, Raymond, Richard, Howard and Clarence.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Plainfield. Father Andrew Kurz will preside. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at a later date at Hope Cemetery, town of Belmont.

The Hardell-Holly Funeral Home of Almond is assisting the family with arrangements.
