With a veteran team back from a year ago, the Pacelli Catholic High School volleyball team will look to contend for the Conference Title in the inaugural season of the Central Wisconsin Conference (CWC) South.

The Pacelli Catholic High School volleyball team placed second at the Auburndale Invitational Saturday, Sept. 9. Team members are, front row, from left: Shannon Leary, Karah Kluck, Dede Filtz, Teesa Shafranski and Madison Hintz. Back row: Emily King, Claire Rogers, Sarah Mueller, Brooke Schroeder, Paige Hintz and Paige Schroeder.

The Cardinals return all but two seniors from last year’s team that finished second in the CWC-8, and are off to a 12-7 start this season.

Last weekend, Pacelli finished second at the Auburndale Invitational Saturday, Sept. 9, and followed that up with a 3-0 win at home over Rosholt in its CWC South opener at the Student Activities Center Tuesday, Sept. 12.

“We have quite a few players back from last year,” said Pacelli volleyball head coach Jackie Struble. “Of our starting group, five of them are seniors, and we have a pretty balanced team this year.

“It’s not like we have one All-Star, we have a quite a few girls that can step up at any point in time, and they’re all equal in their defense, and they’re pretty equal in their offense,” she said. “It’s a nice team to have out on the floor.”

Pacelli Catholic High School sophomore Madison Hintz reaches out to make a dig during the Cardinals 3-0 win over Weyauwega-Fremont at the Student Activities Center Tuesday, Sept 5.
