University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) is hosting its fifth annual Spud Run/Walk beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Goerke Stadium, 1100 Minnesota Ave., Stevens Point, leading up to the UWSP’s annual Spud Bowl football game against Adrian College.

The Spud Run/Walk 5K started five years ago in conjunction with UWSP’s annual celebration of local business agriculture in Portage County. The Spud Bowl celebration has raised more than $100,000, funding scholarships for more than 100 UWSP students from Portage County and surrounding areas with agricultural backgrounds during the last 31 years.

“We see a combination of college students and parents with kids as well as older people who come out and enjoy free potatoes and football,” said Ann Ninnemann, UWSP Spud Bowl coordinator.
