Wisconsin River Woodcarvers show to feature Jerry Uher

This year’s 17th annual woodcarving show by the Wisconsin River Woodcarvers, at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Holiday Inn, 1001 Amber Ave, Stevens Point, will feature Stevens Point’s own Jerry Uher as the featured carver.

Jerry Uher of Stevens Point will be the featured carver at the 17th annual woodcarving show by the Wisconsin River Woodcarvers.
According to Wisconsin River Woodcarvers President, Greg Wirtz, Uher was an easy choice for this year’s featured carver.
“We chose Jerry for the show not only because of his talent in multiple styles (of woodcarving), but also because of all the work he does for the club,” Wirtz said. “Not just in woodcarvings, but also in promoting. It isn’t just a monthly promotion to get people to show up. He works and promotes us all year.”
Uher has been carving for nearly nine years, and decided to join the club in his first year of carving. Since then, he has helped them develop and grow through a variety of ways, most notably through a promotion with the local Boy Scouts, a booth at Farm Tech days which reached an audience of 50,000 people, and progressing the annual woodcarving show among many other fundraisers and promotions.
“In the beginning years the show would have around 40 to 45 exhibits, and this year we have somewhere around 120,” Uher said. “Growing like this is a great experience for the club.”
