The Park Ridge Fire Dept. will hold its second-annual Tame the Flame fundraising 5K fun run/walk on Oct. 7.
A kid’s fitness challenge will accompany the fundraiser at PRFD, 24 Crestwood Drive.
The fun run/walk will raise money to purchase new equipment for Park Ridge’s volunteer firefighters. The route travels through the Village of Park Ridge and the Green Circle Trail.
In-person registration is $25 and includes an event t-shirt, food and refreshments. Participants can register at the village hall on Oct. 7 before 8:30 AM. The 5K begins at 9 AM.
Following the fun run/walk, firefighters will hold a kid’s fitness challenge at the fire department. Various fitness stations set up to mimic the work of firefighters, geared towards kids of all ages.
Also included in the event is a smoke house, fire truck display, McGruff the Crime Dog and Smokey the Bear, CPR demonstrations, fire education and more.
The kid’s fitness challenge is scheduled for 1 to 3 PM. The event is free but a parent or guardian must be present.
Fitnernal Crossfit is a partner with both events, according to Fire Chief Brian Lepper.
