Wastewater treatment project moves ahead after three years

The city of Stevens Point Common Council unanimously approved the construction of facilities related to high-strength waste from the Stevens Point Brewery, 2617 Water St., to the Stevens Point Wastewater Treatment Facility Monday, Sept. 18.
The city and brewery have been working together on this project since 2014, which Joel Lemke, director of water and wastewater, said follows the correct timeline due to the lengthy planning process, time of year they got started and a year warranty that needed to be abided by.
“It’s been about three years in the making now, but we are on track,” Lemke said.
According to the plans proposed three years ago, the agreement calls for construction of a high-strength waste tank at the wastewater treatment plant, a lift station at the brewery, and a direct force main running from the lift station to the waste tank.
Joe Martino, operating partner of Stevens Point Brewery, said the waste tank will be in the brewhouse building in the B cellar below the main floor. This location is close to the area where the water that needs to be treated is used.
