By Robert Whitmire
The SPASH Volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Merrill in the annual Diggin’ The Cause match at the SPASH fieldhouse Thursday night.
The gym was filled with pink and non-stop action, both on the court and off, with raffles and prize give-aways to lucky bidders, all to benefit the St. Michael’s Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Blue Jays entered the contest undefeated and alone atop the Wisconsin Valley Conference with a 6-0 record. SPASH came in close on their heels at 5-1.
The Panthers got out fast picking up a 25-18 win in the first set. Merrill rebounded taking the next three sets 25-23, 25-17, 25-23.
Junior outside hitter Kayla Lass recorded 19 kills; Lexi Iwanski added seven. Junior Megan Miklesh led the team with 28 digs.
The Panthers hit the road with matches Oct. 3 at Chippewa Falls High School and D.C. Everest on Thursday, Oct. 5. First serve for both matches is scheduled for 7 PM.
