VFW Post thanks community, businesses for support

To the Editor:

Greater Plover Area Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10262 wishes to thank the following businesses and organizations for their generous support:

•           Dean Shuda of Shuda Funeral Homes in Plover and Stevens Point. For many years, Mr. Shuda has assisted us in properly disposing of our country’s American flags. When an American flag becomes worn, faded, torn or soiled, it should be retired. There are several ways to respectfully dispose of the American flag without showing disgrace. The most common method is burning the torn or tattered flag in a special ceremony. Thanks to Mr. Shuda, many hundreds of flags have been properly disposed of with his assistance at no monetary cost to the Post.

•           Steve’s Plumbing and Heating – Plover, Stevens Point, Wisconsin Rapids, Marshfield and Wausau. This past month, our old water heater finally failed us, and our water softener was on its last leg. Steve came in for an estimate and suggested we go to a tankless unit instead of a unit with a water tank.

Within two days, we received a call from his office with the offer to replace the old water heater with a tankless unit, install a new water softener, and provide three years of maintenance at no cost. Since the Post had already set aside $5,000 for this project, these funds are now available to assist area veterans and provide ongoing community support.

•           Truckin’ Buddies Club – Stevens Point. The club hosted their 25th annual “Cruisin’ Thru The Years” Truck and Car Show at Pfiffner Park in Stevens Point on Aug. 13. This year, our Post was selected as the recipient of the proceeds from the show.

Club President Barb Strong, Vice President Kathy Eiden and members Tom Goretski and Cris Aldrich presented Post Commander Joe Cahill with a donation of $3,100 at our most recent post meeting. These funds will allow us to continue serving our veterans and our community.

Thank you all for your generous donations to our Post.

Joe Cahill,

Plover VFW Post Commander

Ray Gauthier,

Plover VFW House Committee Chairman
