County budget, taxes may rise

If Portage County Board of Supervisors pass a proposed 2018 Portage County budget, it would mean higher county taxes for residents, but not by much.

The nearly $103.9 million proposed budget would be a 1.33 percent increase over 2017’s amended budget of about $102.6 million; it retains all of the services needed to continue the county’s forward progress, County Executive Patty Dreier said in her presentation to the County Board Tuesday, Oct. 3.

If adopted, the budget would result in tax rate of $5.18 per $1,000 equalized value, up just four cents from 2017.
