Shirley V. Spencer, 92, Plover, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at the Home with Friends Assisted Living.

She was born March 12, 1925, to the late Burton and Marie (Remington) Drake in Elcho. She grew up in Antigo, attended the local grade school and graduated high school.

She moved to Baraboo, where she worked in a black powder manufacturing plant. She was married to Clarence R. Spencer Jan. 6, 1946, in Antigo. While living in the area, she worked as a fire spotter for the local forestry department. The couple relocated and settled in the Stevens Point area.

She found work at the Woolworths Department Store, where she worked until retiring after more than 20 years when the store closed.

She enjoyed square dancing, crocheting, pottery and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed nurturing her green plants.

Survivors include her daughters, Lynn (William) Stanton and Leslie (Carl) Schramm; brother, George (Nancy) Drake; daughter-in-law, Collene Spencer; grandchildren, Tracy (Kurt) Ebenhoe, Kevin Krutza, Amy Krutza, Michelle (Larry) Czerwony, Michael Czerwony, Mark (Katrina) Czerwony, Jorden Spencer, Jeremy (Brittney) Spencer and Brian Stanton; eight great-grandchildren; and extend family members.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; son, Michael Spencer; two sisters; and one brother.

Her family would like to thank Lynn and staff at the Home with Fiends Assisted Living for the care given.
