Waushara segments of Ice Age Trail make challenging weekend
By Steve Hill
The doubts began to set in shortly after lunch on the first day.
We weren’t yet halfway through our weekend hike on the southern part of the Ice Age Trail in Waushara County, but my hiking buddy Al Bond and I were wondering if the our teenaged sons were going to make it.
By the end of the weekend, it was the two adults who were being pulled along by the young ones. We would find the challenges of the Chaffee Creek, Wedde Creek, Mecan River and Greenwood segments of the trail were almost enough to make us swear off backpacking forever.
Until, of course, we reached our goal and decided it was time to start planning the next one.
