The two were honored at the October meeting of the public school board.
Three of Jonas’ students, Juan Torres Ruacho, Mitchell Janiszewski, and Maxwell (Max) Bienvenue, presented him with the award, citing his ability to teach math, his sense of humor, and just being “the most amazing teacher in the world”.
Jonas is in his fifth year teaching for the district.
Ben Franklin student Sydney Grajkowski presented Vrieze with her award on behalf of the Ben Franklin Student Council.
“When students walk into her classroom, it makes us want to learn more,” Grajkowski said. “She gives us a new agenda and topic every day, making us want to know more about what we are learning.”
Vrieze is a 21-year veteran of the district.
Each month students have the opportunity to recognize a staff member that has profoundly influenced their educational experience. The award is given in the name of Mandana Bliss, the first teacher in the Stevens Point Area Public School
