Fay Lois Heikenen, 91, Junction City (Lake DuBay), died Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at Whispering Pines, Plover.

She was born April 30, 1926, in Duluth, Minn., the seventh child of nine to Christ E Engel and Clara (Kucharsky) Engel.

She was married to Lauri Raymond Heikenen April 3, 1948, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Duluth. He died in May 2013.

After living and working in the Duluth-Superior area and Minneapolis, the couple moved to central Wisconsin in the mid-1950s, including Stevens Point. Prior to having children, she worked as a telephone operator in the ‘plug and cord switchboard’ days and became a supervisor.

After the children were born, she was a stay-at-home mom, often taking the children to the beach despite a fear of water.

In 1967, the couple began a farm equipment manufacturing company with a Marshfield partner; in 1986, the couple became the sole owners of H&S Manufacturing.

The couple spent winters in Marco Island, Fla., for decades and amassed a collection of seashells and sand dollars.

Mrs. Heikenen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Stevens Point. She enjoyed bowling and later golfing as well as playing bingo and the slot machines.

She is survived by her sons, Gary (Jan) Heikenen, Chris (Evelyn) Heikenen, and Brian (Joani Freitas) Heikenen; daughter, Jill Heikenen; granddaughter, Eilee Heikenen-Weiss; and one brother, Robert Engel.

Online condolences may offered at www.bostonfuneralhome.net.

The family would like to thank Ruth Lindstrom.
