Finance group approves City Hall land purchase
By Cassie Lennox
The debate over where Stevens Point City Hall should be located continued this week, and after an hour of discussion the Stevens Point Finance Committee members unanimously approved recommending purchasing land downtown for a new building Monday, Oct. 9.
The properties identified for purchase are 1466 Water St., 924 Arlington, and an unaddressed property on Water St.
Though price was not discussed or approved, Community Development Director Michael Ostrowski estimated the total cost for the entire proposed land purchase package would be about $445,000.
Discussion regarding the location of the new City Hall building was extensive, with many committee members and alders in the audience questioning whether downtown was the best option.
