Local resident Robert Steinke (left) with Stevens Point City Council members Mike Phillips (back) and Mary Kneebone, look from an elevated view on Country Club Dr. over the CN railroad for the first time.

The trio were among more than 100 local residents, city staff and former elected representatives on hand for the dedication ceremony of the new overpass on County Club Dr./Hoover Rd. on Oct. 16.

Although some rain delays will keep the roadway closed to motorists until later this week, the $9 million project was complete about a month earlier than initially anticipated.

Public Works Dir. Scott Beduhn said crews still have some final touches to complete, including painting stripes. The asphalt was laid Monday morning, he said.

The new overpass has a multi-use path on its west side and traditional sidewalk on the east. Bicycle lanes will also be painted in the roadway on both sides.
