Sex Offender Released Next Week

By Brandi Makuski
Stevens Point police have announced a convicted sex offender is scheduled for release next week.
Dennis E. Helminski, 61, is a five-time convict for charges related to minors. He has completed his most recent prison sentence for a 1992 conviction for sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl, according to court records.
According to police records, Helminski’s previous convictions stem back to 1977, and include contributing to the delinquency of a minor, as well as multiple counts of various degrees of sexual assault against girls between the ages of 9 and 15.
Sgt. Anthony Zblewski said in a news release that one conviction involved Helminski having forcible intercourse with a 12-year-old girl.
Upon his Oct. 23 release, Helminski will be released back to Portage Co. at an undisclosed location. He will be on supervision with the Wis. Department of Corrections until October 2026.
Helminski will be placed in an intensive supervision program, Zblewski said, and will be subject to lifetime Global Positioning System (GPS) monitoring. He will also be required to register with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program for life. The registry can be located at www.widocoffenders.org.
“He is not wanted by the police at this time,” Zblewski said. “This notification is not intended to increase fear; rather, it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public.”
