The WIAA football playoffs begin this week, with Amherst and Almond-Bancroft at home and Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) on the road.

Back-to-back defending State Champion and top-ranked Amherst (8-1) is the second seed in its eight-team Regional and will host seventh-seeded Colby (6-3) in a WIAA Division 5 Level 1 Playoff Game at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, while Almond-Bancroft (7-3) received the fourth seed in its Division 7 Playoff group, and will host fifth-seeded Hilbert/Stockbridge (5-4) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) (5-4) knocked off fourth-ranked Fond du Lac in the regular-season finale last week to earn a playoff berth, as it received the fifth seed in its Regional and will travel to play at fourth-seeded and 10th-ranked Hudson (7-2) in a WIAA Division 1 Level 1 Playoff Game at 7 p.m. Friday.

Amherst

Amherst won the Central Wisconsin Conference (CWC) Large Title outright with a 35-0 win over Wittenberg-Birnamwood (6-3) last week, and will open the playoffs at home against Colby.

“It’s exciting to be playoff season again,” said Amherst football head coach Mark Lusic. “Our goal is to be 1-0 at the end of this game, that’s all we’re worried about right now.”
