The Amherst/Iola-Scandinavia/Rosholt (AIR) soccer team is one win away from advancing to the WIAA Division 3 State Tournament, after it went on the road and beat Rhinelander Thursday, Oct. 26.

The second-seeded Thunder Falcons recorded a 3-1 win at top-seeded Rhinelander in WIAA Division 3 Sectional Semifinal Thursday afternoon.

AIR will travel to Rice Lake to take on sixth-ranked and top-seeded Amery in a Sectional Final at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, after Amery won 2-1 over third-seeded Rice Lake in the other Sectional Semifinal Thursday.

The winner Saturday will move on to the WIAA Division 3 State Semifinals Friday, Nov. 3, at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.

At the Boys Soccer State Tournament, the four teams in each division are re-seeded, with the No. 1 seed playing the No. 4 seed at 4:30 p.m. Friday, and the No. 2 seed taking on the No. 3 seed Friday at 7 p.m.

This Saturday, the fourth-year AIR program will look to advance to state for the first time, after it won a total of one playoff game in its first three seasons.
