Amherst football pulls away to beat No. 5 Spencer/Columbus
In a battle of teams ranked in the top five in Division 5, the top-ranked and back-to-back defending WIAA Division 5 State Champion Amherst High School football team moved on to the Level 3 Playoffs with a win at home over fifth-ranked Spencer/Marshfield Columbus Friday, Oct. 27.
Second-seeded Amherst (10-1) led 8-6 over third-seeded Spencer/Columbus (9-2) midway through the second quarter of its Level 2 Playoff Game, before the Falcons scored three touchdowns in the final 4:18 of the first half and pulled away for a 49-18 victory.
The win sent Amherst to Level 3 for the seventh year in a row, as the Falcons will host fifth-seeded Stratford (8-2) Friday, Nov. 3, after Stratford went on the road and won 38-0 Friday night at second-ranked and top-seeded Stanley-Boyd (10-1).
