Amherst pulls away from Spencer/Columbus, hosts Stratford Friday

The top-ranked Amherst High School football team used a flurry late in the first half and early in the second half to beat fifth-ranked Spencer/Marshfield Columbus Catholic in a WIAA Division 5 Level 2 Playoff Game at Amherst Friday, Oct. 27.

The second-seeded Falcons (10-1) led 8-6 over third-seeded Spencer/Columbus (9-2) midway through the second quarter, before they used a 28-0 run over a span of five minutes to build a 36-6 lead, on the way to a 49-18 victory.
Back-to-back defending State Champion Amherst will host fifth-seeded Stratford (8-2) in a Division 5 Level 3 game at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, with the winner to move on to the State Semifinals.
“This is a great feeling,” said senior offensive guard/linebacker Max Villnow. “And Stratford won, so we get to play one more game at home.”
“It was definitely a team effort, on offense and defense,” said senior quarterback/safety Marcus Glodowski. “Our guys up front did it on offense, they were working every play.
“And the guys on defense were insane tonight,” he said.
