Kmart to Close on the Northside

City Times Staff
A northside store in Stevens Point is closing its doors.
Kmart, 111 Division St., will close in late January 2018. The closure is part of a mass closing of stores owned by Sears Holdings across the country.
According to a news release from Sears Holdings, the store is one of 45 Kmart locations and 18 Sears stores scheduled to close. The embattled Stevens Point location, which employs about 30 people, is the only Wisconsin store slated for closure.
The company cited poor sales and a lack of profit as part of the reasons for closing the store.
Liquidation sales at the store will begin as Nov. 9, the release said in part, and will remain open through the holiday shopping season.
The Kmart building is currently owned by K/M Stevens Point LLC. It was not immediately known if the building would go back on the market next year.
