Mayor seeks input on overnight parking

By Cassie Lennox
The city of Stevens Point will be putting together a plan regarding overnight on-street parking, according to Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza, with the hopes of bringing a completed plan to the city council in the spring that would go into effect next year.
“We have no clue what form this plan will take yet,” Wiza told The Gazette in an interview Tuesday, Oct. 31. “Maybe we look into permits, and if so, then do we issue them or have people buy them? Do we say people can park on the odd side of the street, or the even, or maybe we go by north, east, south or west? These are the things we are looking at for the plan, and we’re asking people for their input.”
Wiza stated a plan is needed because of two specific obstacles. The first is that street plowing and sweeping is very difficult without a plan in place for on-street overnight parking. The second is that the Stevens Point Police Department has an easier time patrolling the streets, and therefore the city is safer, when the overnight on-street parking is more precise.
