The Rosholt boys cross country team’s quest for a trip to the awards podium came up just short at the WIAA Division 3 State Meet at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids, Saturday, Oct. 28.

Rosholt High School junior Adam Rzentkowski heads toward the finish line to place second overall at the WIAA Division 3 State Meet at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids Saturday, Oct. 28.

Junior Adam Rzentkowski finished second overall to lead the second-ranked Hornets, who totaled 109 points to place third, while third ranked Durand had 79 points to end top-ranked Darlington’s (104) run of consecutive State Titles at six.

“I felt really good in the race,” said Rzentkowski. “I felt like I prepared for it, and I felt like my results kind of showed that I did a lot of work throughout the season.

“So, I’m very happy with my performance,” he said.

“It was kind of disappointing for them not to get a trophy,” said Rosholt boys cross country head coach Mike Trzebiatowski. “They would’ve been a little bit satisfied to get that second place and beat Darlington, but it is what it is, both teams beat us and hats off to them.

“Darlington was upset because they didn’t win, but Durand was the hungriest team,” he said. “We were hungry for a while, we just couldn’t quite close, and that’s the sign of a team that wants a trophy and deserves one.”
