Voting Open for 2018 Levitt Amp Series
By Jake Mathias
CREATE Portage County is in the running to bring its 10-week free live music series back to Stevens Point this summer.
Building on its 2017 Levitt AMP series, CREATE Portage County submitted a proposal to enhance the programming it offered this past summer at the Pfiffner Pioneer Park band shell.
The Levitt AMP Stevens Point series bookended Riverfront Rendezvous, adding four weeks of free live music onto both sides of the festival. Featuring a diverse line-up with local openers, the Levitt AMP Stevens Point series at Pfiffner Park was a popular destination on Thursday nights.
The music series is supported by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a national foundation dedicated to strengthening the social fabric of America through free live music. The Levitt AMP grant provided a matching $25,000 to CREATE as part of a program that supports towns and cities with populations of up to 400,000 residents as they activate under-utilized outdoor performance spaces.
Up to 15 nonprofits will receive grants in 2018 to produce their own Levitt AMP Music Series, and CREATE Portage County hopes to qualify again. A successful campaign requires community participation as community support, measured by the number of online votes received, is one of the key factors the Levitt Foundation uses to determine its venues.
If you’d like to vote, visit https://grant.levittamp.org/voter-registration-page/ to register.
Online public voting ends November 20 at 7 PM. CREATE’s proposal is also posted on the Levitt AMP website and additional information and voting resources are available at www.createportagecounty.org and on CREATE’s Facebook page.
The top 25 finalists will move on to the final round, during which the Levitt Foundation will select up to 15 Levitt AMP winners, which will be announced on Jan. 2, 2018.
