The top-ranked and back-to-back defending State Champion Amherst High School football team (11-1) poured it on Stratford in a WIAA Division 5 Level 3 matchup at home Friday, Nov. 3, to advance to the State Semifinals for the sixth year in a row.
The second-seeded Falcons got out to a 21-0 lead in the second quarter on fifth-seeded Stratford (8-3) and went on to a 52-15 win, to advance to play Division 6 second-ranked Grantsburg (12-0) in a WIAA Division 5 State Semifinal at Stanley-Boyd at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10.
“We came out really hard, and we just took it to them,” said senior running back/linebacker Bryce Holderman of the win over Stratford. “And then we never stopped, and just kept on rolling with it.”
“It was great,” said senior quarterback/safety Marcus Glodowski. “We’ve been playing very well the last few games, and it’s exciting to see the team doing what we’re doing.”
