Memorial improvements to honor WWI soldiers

“When you go home tell them of us and say for your tomorrow we gave today.”

New improvements to Veterans Memorial Park monument, as part of the centennial marking World War I, include educational kiosks and replacing block in front benches with engraved stone.

The quote, one chosen to be placed in stone at Veterans Memorial Park, encapsulates the meaning of the memorial on the south side of Stevens Point, which honors the fallen men of Portage County during World War I. It is one of three sayings that John Kedrowski hopes will be placed by next spring as part of ongoing improvements to the memorial.
Kedrowski, chairman of the Veterans Memorial Restoration Committee that rebuilt the WWI monument in Veterans Park, continues improvements this year and into next as part of the centennial of WWI.
“I think it’s important to keep the history alive,” he said. “I’m a history buff, and it’s just important that the younger generation know what our history is.”
