St. Joseph School will be razed soon

St. Joseph School in Stevens Point, 1901 Lincoln Ave., will soon be a memory.
The decision of Pacelli Catholic Schools to move the Early Childhood Program from the building to Holy Spirit Parish in August resulted in the parish’s decision last year to demolish the building.
The Pastoral Council, the Finance Council and the Rev. Jerzy Rebacz reached that decision after several months of deliberation, with information gathering, sharing options with parishioners and opportunities for parish inspection of the building.
The decision centered on the poor condition of the building, the lack of handicap accessibility, the difficulty of renovating the structure and the absence of a clear role and purpose for the use of the building, parish officials said.
