Amherst football on to State

The Amherst High School football team pulled away in the second half against Grantsburg Friday, Nov. 10, to earn its fourth consecutive trip to the WIAA Division 5 State Championship Game.

The top-ranked and back-to-back defending State Champion Falcons (12-1) scored in the closing seconds of the second quarter to take a 14-0 lead into halftime against Division 6 second-ranked Grantsburg (12-1) in a State Semifinal at Stanley-Boyd Friday, before they opened up a 35-0 lead early in the fourth quarter and went on to win 35-6.
Amherst will go for its third consecutive State Title and fourth in the last six years when it takes on sixth-ranked Lake Country Lutheran (13-0) in the WIAA Division 5 State Championship Game at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, after Lake Country Lutheran won 16-14 over ninth-ranked and reigning State Runner-up Cedar-Grove Belgium (11-2) in the other Division 5 State Semifinal Friday night.
