To ensure that every family that uses the Boys and Girls Club (BGC) of Portage County receives a holiday meal, the club put on a Thanksgiving dinner for more than 500 club members Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County recently served a Thanksgiving dinner to more than 500 club members and their families to ensure all get a good holiday meal.

The event, which included staff and the BGC board, took place at six different club sites across the county.

At the Thanksgiving feasts, club kids and their families had the opportunity to participate in turkey bowling (using a frozen turkey to knock down bowling pins), decorating cookies, completing a family art project, while enjoying some holiday music.

Each club site also had a short program put on by club kids that included club youth reading poems and sharing what they are thankful for this Thanksgiving.

With donations of the WoodTrust-Bell Family Foundation and Boys & Girls Club board members, the staff were able to raffle off 18 frozen turkeys to give to club families that night to take home and create their own Thanksgiving feast.
