Margaret A. Myhra
Margaret A. (Pedersen) Myhra, 91, Stevens Point, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at her home while under the care of Ascension Hospice Care.
A funeral Mass took place Thursday, Nov. 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Stevens Point. Visitation was Wednesday at Boston Funeral Home with a Disabled American Veteran Auxiliary ritual, and again prior to Mass Thursday. Burial was at the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King.
She was born in Milwaukee Jan. 2, 1926, to the late Rasmus and Margaret (Sery) Pedersen. She grew up in Milwaukee and graduated high school from Milwaukee Pius XI. In early 1944, she met Norman L Myhra and the two were wed May 17, 1946. He died in January 2009.
After the marriage, the couple moved to Rosholt for several years and made their final home in Stevens Point in 1960.
At the age of 51, she went back to school and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1982 from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
She was a member of the Schumann-Heink Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, General McGlachlin Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Military Order of the Purple Heart Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and the Stevens Point Noon Lions Club.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband, making two trips back to Europe and the area where he was wounded during his World War II service. They also enjoyed time at their year-round cottage in St. Germain.
The couple opened their home to nieces and nephews and hosted foster children over the years. In 1975, the Myhras hosted Evett Hartvig (Schramm) into their home, and she became part of the family for 43 years.
Survivors include Evett (Don) Hartvig, and their children, Andrew (Kelly) Hartvig, and Madisyn, all of Rosholt; dear friends, Don and Jeanette Omernik, Stevens Point; two brothers-in-laws, Kenneth Myhra of Oakland, Calif., and Clarence Myhra, Menomonee Falls; and sister-in-law, Deloris Myhra of Wheatland, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; two brothers, Richard Pedersen and Gerald Pederson; two sisters, Florence Kau and Mary Biwer; several brothers and sisters-in-law, three nephews and one niece.
The family would like to thank Ascension Hospice Care and Ministry Living Well for the care they provided her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Wisconsin Lions Camp, Rosholt.
