Richard G. Kovac

Richard G. Kovac, 73, Stevens Point, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at Care Partners in Stevens Point.
He was born July 25, 1944, to the late Richard and Josephine (Sorrentino) Kovacsevics in Newark, N.J.
He attended the local schools and later graduated in 1966 at Fairleigh Dickinson University at the Rutherford campus. He attended graduate school Montclair State College.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in the Army Reserves. During his time of service, he received a National Defense Medal. He was honorably discharged Oct. 2, 1970.
He was married to Elizabeth Konopacky in 1979.
He worked as a civil servant in four different states, holding positions within municipalities, counties, state and federal offices. He was most notably an educator and a poet.
In his earlier years, Mr. Kovac worked in the War Resisters League, was a member of the Catholic Workers Movement and Veteran for Peace. He was also in MENSA and Intertel.
In 1998, he obtained listing in the Directory of American Poets and Fiction Writers. He also published a chapbook based on his experiences called “Down and Out in Waukegan and Wisconsin.” His most recent book, “Untitled,” was published in 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Kovac, Stevens Point; daughter, Pax (Virgil) Hall, Stevens Point; and a cousin.
