Obituary: Richard G. Kovac, 73
Richard G. Kovac, age 73, of Stevens Point, died Nov. 26, 2017 at the Care Partners in Stevens Point.
Richard was born July 25, 1944 to the late Richard and Josephine (Sorrentino) Kovacsevics in Newark, NJ.
He attended the local schools and later graduated in 1966 at Fairleigh Dickinson University at the Rutherford campus. Richard attended graduate school Montclair State College.
He was inducted into US Army and served in the Army Reserves. During his time of service, he received a National Defense Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 2, 1970.
He married Elizabeth Konopacky in 1979.
Richard worked as a civil servant if four different states; holding positions within municipalities, counties, state, and federal offices. He was most notably an educator and a poet.
In his earlier years, Richard worked in the War Resisters League, was a member of the Catholic Workers Movement, and Veteran for Peace. He was also in MENSA and Intertel. In 1998 he obtained listing in the Directory of American Poets and Fiction Writers. Richard also published a chapbook based on his experiences called, Down and Out in Waukegan and Wisconsin. His most recent book, Untitled, was published in 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Kovac of Stevens Point; daughter Pax (Virgil) Hall of Stevens Point; cousin, Julie Youngblood; and extended family members.
