Richard Philip Bishop “Dick,” 91, a former Stevens Point resident, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at ThedaCare Medical Center, Waupaca.

He was born to Ruth Huggett Palmer Bishop and Howard Bishop in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Aug. 21, 1926.

He served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II. Following his service, he returned to southwest Iowa where he married Lois Marie Erickson in 1946. They had two children, Richelle and Philip.

He worked in logistics at Safeway Stores in Omaha for many years before moving the family to Stevens Point in1968.

In 1976, he and Joyce Billerbeck Falkowski married in Stevens Point. They celebrated their 41st anniversary in August at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, where they have resided since May 2016.

He was a licensed pilot and electrical engineer. He used those skills to promote irrigated agriculture throughout the Midwest. He also managed several housing complexes in Stevens Point.

Later in his life, he transported railroad crews and auto transport. In retirement, he and Joyce traveled south in the winters. They loved antiquing for Joyce’s shops and filled booths in several area antiques malls.

He served several terms on the Portage County Board and the Plover Village Board, where he worked to promote business development.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Billerbeck Falkowski Bishop; children, Richelle Bishop, Richland Center, Philip (Ann), Mason City, Iowa, Mark Falkowski, Sharon (Paul) Riske and Lori (Gary) Krueger, all of Stevens Point, and Kari (Niles) Yenter, Rosholt; one brother, Roger (Ann), Springfield, Va.; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
