WHITING — After 80 years, McDill Auto Wrecking will close its doors.
Citing the state’s decision to compensate the business for their portion of the Business Highway 51 expansion project, McDill will close this Saturday, Dec. 9. According to a release by McDill, they feel that they have more or less been “squeezed out” by the state.
According to the press release, five employees will lose their jobs as a result of the closure. A lawsuit has been filed by McDill, but the case will not be heard until the middle of 2018. However, there is a chance that the business would re-open in another location at a later date.
McDill was started in 1937 by Hank Glezner. Lawrence Glenzer, Sr. sons, Laurence Glenzer, Jr. and Kurt Glenzer took over the business in 1987. McDill is located at 2200 Post Rd.
