SPASH boys basketball set to contend for State Title
By John Kemmeter
The Stevens Point Area Senior High School (SPASH) boys basketball team will look to make a run for its fourth consecutive State Title this season.
The Panthers return a pair of All-State selections in 6-8 senior forward Joey Hauser and 6-3 senior guard Drew Blair from last year’s team that finished 24-4 overall and won the WIAA Division 1 State Championship for the third year in a row.
Hauser suffered an ankle injury last week and his status remains up in the air for the season, while fourth-ranked SPASH won 74-62 at De Pere Tuesday, Dec. 5, to improve to 2-1 overall.
“We’re excited about the guys we had coming back from last year,” said SPASH boys basketball head coach Scott Anderson. “We lost a couple of important seniors of course, but we have a nice nucleus of kids.
“Obviously, we’re dealing with Joey’s injury right now with his ankle and we’re hoping to get good news on that, we’ll find out more here in the next week or so, and just exactly what he’s dealing with,” he said. “But we’ve got a good core of guys, and it’s a good group to build from.”
