UWSP men’s basketball hosts Hope Saturday afternoon
By John Kemmeter
Coming off a win on the road, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) men’s basketball team will host Hope College (Mich.) (2-2) at 3 p.m. at Bennett Court at Quandt Fieldhouse Saturday, Dec. 9.
The Pointers jumped out to a 20-point lead in the first half at UW-Superior (2-5) Saturday, Dec. 2, and never looked back, as they rolled to a 70-57 win to improve to 2-2 on the season.
UWSP will host Hope Saturday afternoon, and will be at home again Wednesday, Dec. 13, to take on Lawrence (5-0) at 7 p.m.
“It’s very nice to be at home and we’re thrilled to be in front of our fans, and we know we have to earn the respect of the college basketball fans in our community,” said UWSP men’s basketball head coach Bob Semling. “We have to inspire them, we have to give them a reason to be excited about what this team is right now, and what this team could be weeks and months down the road.
“So, we want to make a really good account of ourselves on Saturday, and we want to get those fans on their feet a few times,” he said. “We want them to leave on Saturday, telling their friends and neighbors and people at work on Monday, ‘they were really fun to watch and they competed hard, and this team does have potential to be a very good basketball team.’”
