City nixes change in marijuana possession fine
By Gene Kemmeter
The Stevens Point Public Protection Committee will keep the city’s fine for first-time possession of marijuana as it is, as well as the fine for possession of drug paraphernalia.
The committee decided to retain the existing fines after a lengthy discussion Monday, Dec. 11, at the city’s new Police Station, 933 Michigan Ave., the former Mid-State Technical College campus.
Alderperson Mary McComb, District 9, requested the change, saying some states have legalized possession of marijuana and others have decriminalized possession.
