Residents, business owners mixed on what should be done

By Heather McDonald

After an hour of testimony from more than a dozen residents and business owners, the city of Stevens Point is no closer to determining what direction to go in improving Stanley Street traffic issues than a year ago.

“We aren’t even 100 percent sure what the problems are, that’s why we’re asking you,” Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza told the roughly 50 people in attendance at a public input meeting Tuesday, Dec. 19.

“We’re unclear as to what the real problems are,” he said. “There is money budgeted for improvements … we still don’t know what shape those improvements will come in. There is no plan for Stanley Street yet … we’re looking for additional input.”
