“Beginnings 2018” Exhibit Announced at Q Gallery
For the City Times
STEVENS POINT — Q Gallery invites the community to celebrate the new year at its 2018 inaugural show, “Beginnings.”
The exhibition opens for viewing on Tuesday, Jan.9, and on Friday, Jan. 12, guests can celebrate with friends and the artists; ask questions; and purchase art and home furnishings at a free public reception. The reception runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Snacks and beverages will be served.
Artists unveil their interpretation of Beginnings with new works, new media, and new subjects. According to artist Erin Prais-Hintz:
“If I am not creating something new, I am stagnant. So I push myself to learn something new every month – new pendants, beads and components that work their way into my jewelry designs; inspired by master works of art from around the world and throughout history.”
Q’s other jeweler, Joan North, also introduces new pieces and new ideas monthly.
“I am working on several new lines of silver-smithed earrings for January,” says North, “simple but unusual designs.”
Mary Lee Reineking’s newest endeavors involve mixed media collage:
“Working on watercolor paper, incorporating acrylic, watercolor, and altered papers. This medium offers lots of possibilities so I’m never just sure where the next series will take me.”
Painter, David Chandler has recently been adding fiber-tipped pen to his watercolors.
“I’m liking the effects. It often adds sharp linear shapes that brush-work cannot. The white pen can provide highlights and often works well for distant elements.”
Dan Sivek is eager to share his latest oil creation, titled “Ripples and Bubbles.” Sivek said, “This painting challenged my ability to create a convincing surface with a painterly quality.”
The works of Q’s newest artist members, Jessie Fritsch and Sandi Ticknor, appear for the second time in Beginnings.
“you won’t want to miss meeting these extremely talented artists and seeing their work,” said Sivek. “Some of Jessie’s encaustic paintings using hot beeswax and pigment practically shimmer, while Sandi’s lovely bowls, pots and sculpted vases exude a feeling of calm earthiness.”
Fritsch was aided by her dog in her series called Spring Swallows on McDill Pond.
“My dog Keisha is the one that spotted these birds on a cold morning in April.”
Beginnings runs through early March, when Q will install its next exhibition.
