Lois A. Knope

Lois A. Knope, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point.
She was born May 20, 1930, to Bernard D. and Agnes (Popowski) Mozuch in Stevens Point. She attended St. Peter Grade School, graduating in 1943.
After graduating from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1947, she then attended Central State Teachers College (now University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point) from 1947 to 1949. She transferred to St. Mary School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn., graduating with a nursing degree in 1952.
She was married to Edward J. Knope Sept. 26, 1953, at St. Peter Catholic Church. He died in 1992.
In addition to raising her family, she worked at St. Michael’s Hospital beginning in 1953. She became Vice President of Nursing Service, a position she held until her retirement in 1988.
She was involved in many organizations, including being a founding member of Ministry Health Care Hospice, Volunteer Caregivers of Portage County, St. Stephen Catholic Church Pastoral and Deanery Councils, Chair of Sacred Worship Committee, Progress Book Club (she enjoyed the lively discussions even after her macular degeneration stole her eyesight), was an Associate of Sisters of Sorrowful Mother, Wednesday afternoon Bridge Club at the Lincoln Senior Center and looked forward to the monthly Cheers lunch meeting with friends from St. Michael’s.
She is survived by her children, Mary (Mike) Swanson, Pardeeville, Carole Levi, Denver, Colo., Anne (Tom) Corcoran, Stevens Point, and David, Pueblo, Colo.; her grandchildren, Jamie (Brandon) Ferguson, West Bend, Dan (Renee) Swanson, Pardeeville, Kellen Levi, Denver, Colo., Shane Levi, Denver, Colo., James Corcoran, Los Angeles, Calif., Ryan (Melissa) Corcoran, Verona, Alyssa (Drew) Thomas, Denver, Colo., and Matthew Corcoran, Washington, D.C.; great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Corcoran; and many nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, “Jack;” son-in-law, John Levi; and two brothers, Carl and Bernard; sisters-in-law, Molly Knope Ellingson and Dorothy; brother-in-law, Richard Ellingson; and Barbara Knope Pierce.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to St. Stephen Catholic Church, Ascension (formerly Ministry) Health Care Hospice and Volunteer Caregivers of Portage County.
Assisting the family is Boston Funeral Home, Stevens Point.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the funeral home with the rosary concluding the visitation at 6:45 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church followed by a 10:30 a.m. Funeral Mass officiated by the Very Rev. John Potaczek.
