SHARON — A Portage Co. man will face charges of attempted homicide after stabbing his wife in the stomach.

According to police reports, on Jan. 3, authorities were called to a residence on the 7700 block of Rustic Dr. for a request of an ambulance. The caller and defendant, 31-year-old Dannie Miller, told dispatch that he had “gotten into a knife fight with his wife.”

Miller’s wife stated that she was stabbed in the stomach with a kitchen knife, which was approximately midline below her sternum. She would soon be transferred to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau to undergo surgery.

According to reports, after a verbal argument on Dec. 26, Miller left the residence for over a week until returning home on Jan. 3 to collect mail. After discussing their relationship for some time that night, it would soon turn into an argument, where Miller would allegedly pull out a kitchen knife from a block.

His wife told police that he feared that Miller would harm himself, and that he seemed “out of it” as he held the knife during the argument. According to her statement, Miller had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, and had possibly been off his medication for several months. Miller soon told her “you’re making me do this.”

While she struggled to keep the knife away, Miller would eventually stab her in the abdomen area. According to Miller, he told police that his wife had been “in his face, and arguing furiously.”

If convicted, Miller faces up to 85 years imprisonment for charges of attempted homicide and first-degree reckless injury. His next appearance in court is scheduled for Jan. 16.
