County EMS system under review: Executive presents options, requests input from municipalities for changes
By Heather McDonald
Recent conflict and concern has Portage County officials looking for guidance from municipalities to determine what, if any, changes to make in the county-wide Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system.
To that end, County Executive Patty Dreier sent out surveys to each of the county’s municipalities requesting the respective boards include the survey on a board meeting agenda to get input from residents about the direction they would like to see the county move in providing EMS.
This week, municipalities began including the topic on their agendas – town of Lanark was Tuesday, Jan. 9, for example – and will continue throughout the month.
In the more than 20-page survey packet, Dreier included four potential options. Survey results would be returned to the county by mid-February with the expectation of presenting those results at the March Towns Association meeting. At that time, the information can move forward to the new County Board for review and be included in any discussions regarding changes in the system.
