Through the recently completed Sentry Classic basketball tournament and Community Parks Hockey Classic, the Community Parks Improvement Committee (CPIC) continued to generate money for recreational and athletic projects in the Stevens Point area.

Formed in 1970, the CPIC has raised more than $600,000 for local projects, which included a total of $19,000 that was presented this year for commitments to the Village of Plover and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP).
“It’s a great thing,” said CPIC president Jack Edgerton of the Sentry Classic. “Our whole idea is to try to bring some good, competitive basketball to the community and still try to raise money for the community parks.
“And we’ve had some, great, great people to work with,” he said. “Our board of directors are super guys and gals, and they’re all volunteers.”
