Obituary: Gregory Eugene Flynn, 68
Gregory Eugene Flynn, age 68, passed away at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau on January 28, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
A celebration of life service for Greg will be held Friday February 2, 2018 at 11:00AM at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point. Pastor Doug Schneider of Woodlands Church will officiate. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 10:00AM until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
Greg was born on December 19, 1949 the son of Eugene and Cecelia (Schwab) Flynn in Slayton, MN. He attended local schools in Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School in 1967. After graduating, Greg moved to Stevens Point with his family and began working for Quality Beverage. In 1969 he was drafted into the Army and served our country for 2 years. After serving our country, Greg was in the US Army Reserve from 1971 until he was honorably discharged in 1975. In 1972 Greg began working for American Motors in Kenosha and later Chrysler until 1989. On June 21, 1975 Greg married Barbara Firkus at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Stevens Point. Greg later worked as a mill worker for Neenah Paper in Stevens Point from 1990 until he retired in 2012.
Greg had many hobbies, but was most passionate about hunting. He hunted with his brother-in- laws and nephews in the Jordan swamp, hunted in Wyoming with the Kizewski brothers, and has a hunting camp with other family members known as “The Shack “ in the upper peninsula of Michigan for 30 years.
Greg also enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan. He loved football, basketball, and baseball. He especially loved the Packers.
He is survived by his wife: Barbara Flynn, Stevens Point; 2 sisters: Margaret Bronk, Minocqua, WI; and Maureen (Dan) Welgos, Thorp, WI; niece: Kari (Kris) Simonis; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Stephen Flynn.
