County rejects Health Care Center proposals
By Heather McDonald
Portage County Executive Patty Dreier rejected the two vendors who responded and were subsequently interviewed regarding a request for partnership for the county’s Health Care Center (HCC).
“Neither came with clear packages that could be recommended to move forward,” Dreier told the Gazette. “I felt it made sense to go immediately with my recommendation to reject both proposals.”
The Portage County Health Care Center Committee (PCHCC) expected to meet Wednesday, Feb. 7, after press deadline to discuss the evaluations as well as review and possibly act on a potential research center and funding to conduct a countywide survey regarding the HCC’s future. It will meet again Feb. 21.
The county made the proposals and evaluations public Friday, Jan. 26. Health Dimensions Group (HDG), Minneapolis, scored higher than Crystal Fountains Assisted Living LLC (Whispering Pines), Plover. By law, if the county moved ahead with the RFP process, it would have to go with the highest scoring vendor.
HDG scored 523.83 points out of a possible 825 total points; Crystal Fountains scored 421.83.
The evaluation team members who included comments with the evaluations indicated pros and cons for both. As an overall business partner, HDG was preferred whereas connecting with the county’s values had Crystal Fountains favored.
