Letter: Abbott “Embodies the Skills I Like to See in a Public Official”
To the Editor:
Central Wisconsin has many, many positive qualities that make this an amazing place to live, raise families, start businesses, or enjoy a career and a life. Unfortunately, our regional water quality is no longer one of the most positive reasons to pursue these goals.
I have worked with a rapidly growing number of other concerned citizens in Portage County for the past eighteen months to highlight both the causes, and importantly, investigate the solutions that might slow and eventually reverse the significant trends towards continued groundwater contamination in our County. One of those citizens is Anne Abbot who is currently running for district 25 Supervisor. Anne has worked tirelessly to educate and connect farmers, teachers, tradespeople, and neighbors about local water concerns and their relationships to public health.
Stressing an across the board approach to addressing the problems and solutions together. Anne’s background in public health is extensive, as is her commitment to ensuring all county residents have equal access to clean water, a clear understanding of the issues, and a workable path towards mediating the health effects of degrading a critical resource.
Anne embodies the skills I like to see in a public official; an attention to detail, asking experts for input on issues that are beyond her personal experience, the ability to listen, and evaluate a problem, and a drive to and bring everyone to the table to work towards a solution.
In her own words: “I am interested in giving back to our community, and in working toward positive changes. I am skilled at asking tough questions, facilitating collaboration, and building community. I have a vision for Portage County that includes clean and abundant water for future generations. I am passionate about
health and the importance of recognizing clean water’s direct link with people’s health.”
Please vote in both the February 20th Primary and April 3rd Spring Election for your candidates of choice. In District 25, a vote for Anne is literally, a vote for clean water.
