Schobert to share snow sculpting skills

By Heather McDonald

Take clean, white snow, add creativity, some tools and a bit of color and what do you have? Children and families can find out with a new CREATE Portage County program: Meet Your Maker.

Resident snow sculpting expert Jef Schobert – whose Clark Street home continuously contains some form of snow sculpture in his yard throughout the winter months – will lead the class, called Snow Sculpting Experience with Snow Art Zone’s Jef Schobert.

“I know people are interested in my art and why, how,” Schobert said. “I like to help out when asked. I offer my art to be seen so people smile, maybe they will laugh more, be lighter.”

The event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in the space in front of the IDEA Center, 1039 Ellis St., Stevens Point. Cost is $10 per sculpture, which can be done by individuals or in teams. Registration is available through the Brown Paper Tickets event page: m.bpt.me/event/3334974 or by visiting brownpapertickets.com and searching “Meet Your Maker.”

Prizes will be awarded for best sculpture, and Schobert will post the best ones on his Facebook page, www.facebook.com/snowartclark.

To read the rest of the story, pick up a copy of the Portage County Gazette at one of the many newsstands in the area, including gas stations and grocery stores. Or subscribe at www.shopmmclocal.com/product/portage-county-gazette to have weekly copies delivered by mail.
