City denies appeals of costs for sidewalk snow removal
By Gene Kemmeter
Two Stevens Point residents lost their appeals Monday, Feb. 12, of approximately $80 each in fees and costs for failing to remove snow from their sidewalks within 24 hours after the snow stopped falling.
Sheldon Schroeder, Fourth Avenue, and John Dedie, West Street, appealed the service charges they received for failing to remove snow on Dec. 15 after several smaller snowfalls.
Both objected because neither had been notified that they were in violation of the city ordinance that requires snow to be removed from sidewalks within 24 hours after the snow stops falling.
Stevens Point Public Protection Committee members Alderpersons Mike Phillips, District 10, and Mary McComb, District 9, voted to deny the appeals, while Alderperson Meleesa Johnson, District 5, voted to approve.
